I have an idea that feels exciting – my favourite kind – so I’m running with it.
In my head it sounds like this:
“I’ll be in Adelaide for a few days in September. There are so many powerful women I’d love to see. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to gather an intimate group for a sacred ceremony and dinner! I’d love to give a talk about the three main qualities we must carry to be the women the world needs now. Our feminine power is desperately needed to guide the way during these crazy times. I’d also love to offer a ceremony where we connect with the beauty of nature (flowers, leaves, bark, feathers) and set our sacred intentions around the table to create more harmony in our lives – and the world. I’d love for us to connect, share a meal, and make meaning and magic together…”
This event will be on Thursday 17 September.
It’ll be coming up to the equinox, when day and night are equal length. A time for letting go of stagnant energy, rebirth, fresh starts and balance. The perfect time for a group of powerful women to come together and make magic, don’t you think?
If you’re in Adelaide, or can be, I’d love to have you join us. Feel free to invite your friends too. You can find out more information and book your space at the table here:
Adelaide Powerful Women’s Dinner
Wild times, pigeons, and doors (opening and closing)
I recently moved house. It took more from me than I knew I had. It turns out that a deep knowing coupled with a decision only a mama who fiercely loves her child can make ensures things happen quickly. I’m sitting at my desk in my new office at home feeling in awe of the ways we were looked after in the process.
I’d written a list of exactly what I wanted for our new home. I found and secured it – with every box ticked – within 10 days. On the day we moved in I heard pigeons cooing outside the lounge room. I can hear them now while I write to you.
I want to tell you about pigeons. Common birds, not exactly exotic. When I hear them cooing I remember being a little girl playing and sleeping over at my Gran’s (who we used to call Nanny but switched to Gran when we were older because it made us feel more grown up) house. She made the yummiest cream puffs dusted with icing sugar for my birthday, and scones on Sundays, and the best roast chicken with crispy potatoes and thick gravy. Her lolly jar, which she’d hand painted herself, was full of Minties and mini chocolate bars. Her home grown Truss tomatoes were juicy and sweet and I loved inhaling their smell, which I can only describe as real and alive. She played the piano for my ballet classes and one of my exams too. She was a talented china painter and music teacher and she sang opera on ABC radio. She entered her cat in shows and he won lots of prizes. She was a woman before her time. I treasure all these memories.
In recent years pigeons have become more prominent in my life. When we lived in Bali, I’d wake up to their cooing and it felt like home. When we moved to Melbourne, our then apartment looked out over bamboo and palm trees, just like Bali, along with tall camellia bushes abundant with buds and pink and white blooms. I’d wake each day to the sound of pigeons cooing and it felt like home.
I hadn’t heard the pigeons since then, except when I’ve visited Bali. Then, on the day we moved in to this house, as I was instructing the removalists where to place the furniture and take each box, the pigeons cooed in the trees outside the lounge room and I knew I was home again. Tears welled in my eyes. Everything is back in its rightful place.
Apparently the spiritual meaning of pigeons is peace, divine guidance, and a strong connection to… home.
This move has reminded me that when we choose our truth life meets us there. No-one said it’s easy. And, I’m sleeping better than I have in ages.
A question I’m asking myself – maybe it’s relevant for you too – is What would my life be like if I give to myself in the ways I’ve given to others?
What needs to be Eclipsed?
Eclipse season starts today/tomorrow depending on where you are in the world. I find myself drawn more deeply to my astrology roots as I track what’s happening in my chart and my life. These times are wild, collectively and for many of us personally. Anything that’s inauthentic or not built on solid ground in our lives is falling away. It’s all to help us come home to who we truly are.
Eclipse seasons are about change. They reveal truths. They show us old identities, paths and timelines that no longer fit. There can be plot twists and fated shifts. Whatever happens, it becomes clear that the universe is intent on you moving forward. Something ends, and something else begins. Notice what shows up and take it seriously. We’re our most powerful when we work with these cycles.
Eclipses raise questions like: What do you see that you can’t unsee? What do you know that you can’t unknow? What is your soul pulling you towards? What has no life left in it for you? Is there something in your life you wouldn’t choose now? Which door is opening for you?
And for this eclipse season in particular: If you stopped seeking external validation, what would you do or stop doing? How do you still “perform” power in your life?
A reminder: The women the world needs now are rooted in power. We don’t abandon ourselves to please others. We’re unapologetically our whole selves, as we shape a world that works for everyone.
If you consciously choose to release something during an eclipse season it won’t need to be taken away from you in a much more dramatic way in the future.
No matter how you experience this eclipse season, it’s a good time to incorporate more rest if you can.
I selected two cards for my community here – for you – as extra guidance.
Journey: Regardless of the fears associated with change, it is the only path to healing. I embrace change with gratitude
Acceptance: Accepting my Divine perfection is fundamental to exercising my limitless potential as a spiritual being. I am beautiful and capable of greatness
Eclipse season ends on August 27/28. Keep your eyes and heart open, and be gentle with yourself these next few weeks.
Just a thought…
I’m noticing birds’ nests on my morning walks, perched in bare winter branches.
I wonder whether birds reuse their nests? They look to be in good order, and, given that birds are nature, I imagine they care enough for the earth and their own nervous systems that they recycle the little nests that hold their tiny eggs and chirping young.
Most of us have forgotten that we are nature too, just like the birds. Most of us continue to walk this earth disconnected from our own nature and power.
I wonder what it will take for our world to truly reconnect? Let’s be the women who guide the way together.
